The Westside Calisthenics Competition runs from 17 September until 9 October 2016 . There are over 2,000 competitors performing at St Bernards College Performing Arts Centre, Rosehill Road, Essendon-Keilor East and Gladstone Park Secondary College Performing Arts Centre, Taylor Drive, Gladstone Park. The Westside Competition was originally called Norwest Competition and created by Sue Smith from Westaire Calisthenics College with her father, the late Jim Chalmers. In its 31st year and located in the Western Suburbs, this competition is designed to provide an opportunity for lower graded clubs to compete towards the end of the calisthenics year.

The Westside Competition has 3 perpetual trophies that are awarded at the end of each competition season. The Jim Chalmers shield is won by the club/college with the highest overall aggregate points across all age sections. In 2015, Sunbury School of Calisthenics won this award. In honour of past committee and life members, the late June Campbell and Meryl Kemp, commemorative trophies are awarded to the club/college with the overall highest aggregate points for the core items (March, Clubs, Free Exercise, Rods and Aesthetics) in each Senior and Intermediate sections. In 2015, the June Campbell trophy was awarded to Maroondah Calisthenics Seniors and the Meryl Kemp trophy was shared by Greater Valley Calisthenics Intermediates and Highett Youth Club Intermediates.

The Westside Committee offer an incentive program to help local calisthenics clubs/colleges with fundraising by rewarding volunteers with points for the time they help out at the Westside Competition. Their nominated club will then receive a donation from the profit made through the canteen. To become involved email volunteerswestside@gmail.com.Westside Competition have canteen facilities at both venues and are run by the McGuigan family, Westside committee members and volunteers.

Westside Competition Convener, Gloria Mason said “Our current committee comprises of 11 members, some who are coaches, past and present competitors, new mums and grandparents, all who work hand in hand to provide a very friendly, well run competition and to give present members the opportunity and enjoyment of competitive Calisthenics. We are very grateful for our team of volunteers who assist us each year. We hope our volunteer incentive program encourages more people to volunteer at our wonderful competitions.”
