Bayside and Horsham Calisthenics Competitions start this weekend

The Bayside Calisthenics Competition will run from the 28 August until 17 September at George Jenkins Theatre, McMahons Rd, Frankston and Horsham Calisthenics College will host its 36th annual competition this weekend from Friday 26 August to Sunday 28 August at the Horsham Town Hall.

The Bayside competition was originally hosted to raise money for a new rehearsal hall in Chelsea and to provide lower division clubs, who did not travel to Ballarat, an opportunity to perform on stage. The first Competition Conveners were Jean and Malcolm Finlayson. The Bayside Competition Convener, Deb Woolard, said, “Bayside is renowned for being a friendly welcoming competition and we look forward to hosting another great spectacular for calisthenics”. For the first time Horsham Calisthenics Competition will use the newly renovated, Horsham Town Hall, as their competition venue. For the 2016 competition, Horsham recorded its highest number of solo entries and have 350 competitors from 10 calisthenic clubs competing this weekend. Visitors to Horsham will come from Kongorong, Mildura, Mt Gambier, Naracoorte, Portland, Sabelle, Swan Hill, Tonique and Warrnambool. Horsham Calisthenics College, Principal Coach, Kylie Hermans, said, “All of the Horsham Calisthenics College are excited for this year’s competition at the new Horsham Town Hall. It is a beautiful stage and we are so fortunate to have a state-of-the-art theatre in our own backyard".

Programs are available for $5 from the venue.

If you are driving to the Horsham competition, street parking is available near the Horsham Town Hall and the large Kmart carpark nearby in Darlot Street. A canteen is available, otherwise The Exchange Hotel, on the corner of Pynsent Street and Firebrace Street, will be taking phone orders for meals.

CVI will be broadcasting live on Facebook from Horsham on Saturday 27 August at approximately 11.35am and filming at the Bayside Calisthenics Competition on Saturday 3 September with the Division 4 & 5 Senior section.
