5 Aug 2016 by Admin

The Warrnambool Calisthenics Competition is on this weekend from the 5 to the 7 of August, is part of the Warrnambool Eisteddfod and will run at the Gwen and Edna Jones Auditorium, Kings College, 44 Balmoral Road, Warrnambool.

The Barwon Calisthenics Competition runs from the 6 August to 18 September and will run at two venues, the Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177 Watton St, Werribee and the Geelong Performing Arts Centre, 50 Little Malop Street, Geelong. Street parking is available near both venues.

Warrnambool Calisthenics Competition Convener, Kay Snowden, said, “We cover divisions 4 through to 11 and have a number of fantastic regional clubs that come and compete. We would love to have more clubs travel to Warrnambool to compete as we provide a great experience for calisthenic competitors and coaches. Calisthenics has a long history with Warrnambool, going back to 1961 and we cannot wait to see performers take to the Warrnambool stage in 2016.”

The Barwon Competition started in 2000, with all local clubs coming together to create Barwon Calisthenics Competition. The competition originally allowed higher division teams to compete at Deakin University and the lower divisions at Geelong High School. The aim was to provide a local competition for the Geelong and district clubs. The Barwon Competition has now grown to 6 weekends, with 54 clubs entered and a massive 2,400 competitors!

Both venues of the Barwon Calisthenics Competition, require ‘Backstage passes’ for coaches and team assistants for 2016. Parents will be permitted to enter the dressing rooms up to 20 minutes prior to the competition start time. Each club will receive 3 passes (for 3 coaches), and 2 passes per team if required. Please be advised that at Wyndham Cultural Centre, the maximum backstage capacity is 150 people at any given time. Given this number, the competition is encouraging competitors where able, to enter the backstage area with their coaches.

Barwon Calisthenics Competition Convener, Kylie McPherson said, "We are looking forward to another great year at the Barwon Competition. It’s great to see so many clubs entering our competition and we look forward to seeing your creative items being performed on our wonderful stages. We are still looking for anybody who is willing to volunteer to help with a competition. It is a great way to see other divisions and to get an insight on how a competition is run.”
