24 Jan 2017 by Admin

In late 2016 the Victorian Calisthenic Coaches Association (VCCA) and Calisthenics Victoria (CVI) finalised their amalgamation. The VCCA is pleased to announce that applications are now invited for the VCCA Committee as a division of CVI.

Call for Expressions of Interest – VCCA Committee

In accordance with the VCCA’s Terms of Reference the VCCA now calls for Expressions of Interest for the VCCA Committee as a division of CVI. There are 8 positions available with expressions of interest closing on Friday 17 February 2017.

Please read the VCCA Terms of Reference and the position descriptions on the CVI website, www.calisthenics.asn.au/vcca-governance.

Your application should include a brief letter outlining your personal, professional and calisthenics experience. All applications will be treated confidentially.

We encourage all VCCA members with a passion for member representation and education to make an application.
Background information on the amalgamation

The VCCA – CVI amalgamation was the result of almost 2 years of ongoing negotiation with both parties working together for the betterment of the sport, assisted by external expertise. In 2015 Victorian Coaches agreed upon a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the details of the amalgamation and have been included and informed throughout the process, via emails and at VCCA meetings.
In November 2016 the VCCA held a Special Members Forum where the VCCA membership voted to finalise the amalgamation and since then both CVI and VCCA have been working on the administrative processes to complete this process.

The focus during this time has been on processes to ensure that VCCA retains its voice within calisthenics and to streamline administrative processes. This has included establishing additional consultative groups, reviewing the internal office structure to provide greater support to coaches and introducing an online coach’s database to streamline communications, provide easier access to education and professional development opportunities as well as simplifying annual membership renewals.

CVI CEO Matthew Brown says, “It has been imperative to CVI that VCCA and their members feel assured in the goals and objectives of this amalgamation. CVI will not take over the running of VCCA, instead we will provide administrative support and resources to the Committee and staff. It is very important that coaches remain a part of the decision and consultative process for calisthenics in Victoria.

We are excited by the recent developments and look forward to the introduction of other positive outcomes the amalgamation will bring for our collective membership.”

Previously known as the Victorian Calisthenic Teachers Association (VCTA), VCCA currently has over 850 members and continues to be an integral part of calisthenics. The VCCA is responsible for the education and ongoing professional development of calisthenic coaches in Victoria along with renewals, registrations, complaint handling and the managing the VCCA Solo Competition.

VCCA President Judi Baird says, “VCCA works incredibly hard to support Victorian calisthenic coaches. We are excited and look forward to what this next chapter brings and we want to reassure all coaches that our primary objectives are still the education and development of calisthenic coaches in Victoria.”

What does this mean for Victorian Coaches?
Victorian calisthenic coaches will not experience any changes to how they complete their educational training or their relationship with VCCA. Instead the changes will primarily be from an administrative and organisational perspective where the VCCA receive assistance from CVI and will be included in CVI’s rebranding process.

The VCCA structure will remain the same, with the VCCA reporting to the CVI Board as a division of CVI.

Our contact details have not changed, so if you need to contact VCCA please email vcca@calisthenics.asn.au.
