Royal South Street Society Solo Audition Process

17 Jan 2017 by Admin

Calisthenics Victoria have been consulting with the Victorian Calisthenic Coaching Association, the CVI State Championships Committee and Director of Competitions Shirley Pettitt to determine a new process that will benefit all stakeholders in the Royal South Street Society (RSSS) Audition process.

In 2017, twenty (20) successful Victorian Competitor’s and two (2) emergencies will be invited to compete for both the RSSS Graceful Girl and the RSSS Calisthenic Solo Competition section based on their performances at the 2017 CVI State Championships Solo and Duo Competition.

How will the new process work?

The auditions will be held as part of the 18 years and over Senior Open Calisthenic Solo/Graceful Solo Sections at the CVI State Championships. The Senior Open and Open Reserve Solo Sections will not be combined. The Open and Open Reserve sections will be held separately with the top five Open Reserve competitors being invited to audition for RSSS.
To make this process clearer we have broken it down into three stages.

Stage 1.
The 18 years and over Senior Open Reserve Calisthenic Solo/ Graceful Solo Sections will be held towards the start of the CVI State Championships Solo and Duo Competition.
After the results, a maximum of five (5) competitors with the highest scores will be invited to compete in the 18 years and over Senior Open Calisthenic Solo/Graceful Solo Sections. Only the top five competitors will be invited, if someone is unable to compete there will not be an emergency to take their place.

Stage 2.
The 18 years and over Senior Open Calisthenic Solo/ Graceful Solo Sections will take place at the end of the CVI State Championships.

The five (5) Open Reserve Competitors will compete in this section however they will only be eligible for the RSSS audition and not for the CVI awards presented on the night.

Stage 3.
The top 20 competitors who compete in the 18 years and over Senior Open Calisthenic Solo/ Graceful Solo Sections, including the Open Reserve competitors, will be emailed privately of their success the following week and invited to compete at RSSS competitions in October. The details on how to enter for RSSS will be included in this email.

CVI will announce this RSSS finalists once every competitor has been notified.

Why has this change been introduced?

CVI has recognised that the previous audition formats trialled for the RSSS Graceful Girl Competition and the new RSSS Calisthenic Solo Section were problematic and did not suit all stakeholders involved due to:
• Cost to the competition hosting the audition section.
• Lack of venues and time to host a separate competition for the auditions.
• Combining the Open and Open Reserve Section meant that the competition could take many hours and in 2016 had over fifty competitors. As the number of Victorian soloists continue to grow, CVI wish to ensure that solo competitions remain family friendly and reduce the length of competitions.
• In 2016, the VCCA Solo Competition included the RSSS auditions as a separate section and consequently were unable to present their own awards for the Open and Open Reserve sections. We want to ensure the importance and prestige of every Victorian Solo and Duo Competition is retained.

During CVI’s consultation process we have identified some further questions you may have
1. If I am chosen as one of the five Open Reserve Competitors to compete in the 18 years and over Senior Open Graceful or Calisthenic Solo section, do I have to pay another entry fee to audition for RSSS?
No.

2. What number will I be in the program?
We will leave spaces for the five Open Reserve entrants in the program. This will be randomly selected and competitors will be told their number prior to the Open competition.

3. How will I be notified if I am one of the Open Reserve competitors who are competing in the Open section?
Open Reserve Competitors will receive a confirmation email inviting them to compete in the Open Section within 24 hours of the completion of the Open Reserve competition.

4. Will the open and open reserve sections be on the same day?
No.

5. How will I be notified if I am successful for the RSSS competition?
If successful in attaining a top 20 position and therefore the opportunity to compete at RSSS you will be privately notified via email the following week and CVI will release the list of names after every competitor is notified. The entry process for the RSSS competition will be included in the email and you will pay your entry fee directly to RSSS.

6. How will these sections be adjudicated?
There will be a panel for both the Open and Open Reserve sections.
